The 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence is an annual international campaign that kicks off on November 25, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, and runs until December 10, Human Rights Day.

Across Central America and the Dominican Republic, USAID supported communities, leaders, and partners to raise awareness on the importance of preventing and eliminating all forms of violence against women, girls, LGBTQI+ persons, and persons with disabilities, among other marginalized populations.

Through the InfoSegura Project, USAID together with UNDP, supported several initiatives:

  • In Costa Rica, there was a discussion on social autopsies as a technical and methodological tool for the prevention of femicides; the unveiling of an artistic work in memory of women and girl victims of femicide, as part of the national campaign "Las que ya no están" (Those who are no longer here); and the presentation of the results of the technical analysis of the indicators of the Unified System for the Measurement of Statistics on Gender Violence (SUMEVIG).
  • In Honduras, the results of the National Specialized Survey on Women and Girls, on the different types of violence against women and girls for the formulation of evidence-based public policies, were launched.
  • In Honduras and the Dominican Republic, awareness campaigns were disseminated through social networks and digital media.
