Kinshasa, DRC – The U.S. Government (USG) is proud to announce the opening of an implementing office of Power Africa in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and the launch of a new activity called “Empowering East and Central Africa program.” Power Africa is a flagship initiative of the USG, coordinated by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), that enhances access to reliable and sustainable energy power across Africa. This expansion marks a significant milestone in Power Africa's commitment to fostering economic growth and development in the east and central Africa region.

Through strategic collaboration, Power Africa endeavors to increase access to affordable and sustainable power, thereby catalyzing economic opportunities and improving living standards. Power Africa operates as a multi-agency partnership – including the U.S. Agency for International Development, the Department of State, and the Millennium Challenge Corporation — harnessing the combined efforts of the private sector, international development organizations, and governments worldwide to address the pressing energy challenges facing Africa.

The Empowering East and Central Africa activity will work closely with local stakeholders, including government agencies, private sector companies, and community organizations, to identify and implement innovative solutions tailored to the unique needs of the DRC. With an investment of $15.5 million over the next three years, and by leveraging the expertise and resources of its diverse network of partners, Power Africa aims to drive substantial advancements in power infrastructure, energy access, and sustainability across the region.

The opening of its first office in Kinshasa represents a significant step forward in Power Africa's mission to advance energy access and drive inclusive economic growth across the continent. Through continued partnership and innovation, Power Africa remains committed to realizing a future where all Africans have access to affordable, reliable, and sustainable power.
