WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U. S. Agency for International Development (USAID) has awarded the Iraq Community Stabilization cooperative agreement to International Relief and Development (IRD), an Arlington, Virginia based non-governmental organization specializing in providing relief and development programs in civil society, food security, health, humanitarian assistance, infrastructure, and economic development.

The Community Stabilization project will promote economic and social stability in Iraqi communities prone to insurgent influence and activity by:

  • Improving employment and business opportunities through jobs, vocational training and grants;
  • Integrating disenfranchised youth into their communities through accelerated learning and life-skills programs;
  • Mitigating community conflict through support for civil society organizations.

USAID has obligated $30 million of the Iraq Relief Reconstruction Fund (IRRF) to this award to date.

The U.S. Agency for International Development has provided economic and humanitarian assistance worldwide for more than 40 years.
